Monday is FunDay

"The shortest day has passed, and whatever nastiness of weather we may look forward to in January and February, at least we notice that the days are getting longer.  Minute by minute they lengthen out.  It takes some weeks before we become aware of the change.  It is imperceptible even as the growth of a child, as you watch it day by day, until the moment comes when with a start of delighted surprise we realize that we can stay out of doors in a twilight lasting for another quarter of a precious hour."
-  Vita Sackville-West

MonDay is FunDay!  The Presque Isle Movie of the month is Midnight in Paris
Paris is a city that lends itself to daydreaming, to walking the streets and imagining all sorts of magic, a quality that Woody Allen understands perfectly. Midnight in Paris is Allen's charming reverie about just that quality, with a screenwriter hero named Gil (Owen Wilson) who strolls the lanes of Paris with his head in the clouds and walks right into his own best fantasy. A midnight encounter draws him into the jazzy world of Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Picasso and Dali, and an intense Ernest Hemingway, who promises to bring Gil's manuscript to Gertrude Stein for review. This is a romantic comedy set in Paris about a family that goes there because of business, and two young people who are engaged to be married in the fall have experiences there that change their lives. It's about a young man's great love for a city, Paris, and the illusion people have that a life different from theirs would be much better.
The movie's on the side of gentle fantasy, and it has some literary/cinematic in-jokes that call back to the kind of goofy humor Allen created in Love and Death. The city glows with Allen's romantic sense of it, and Owen Wilson has just the right nice-guy melancholy to put the idea over. A worthy entry in the Cinema of the Daydream. --Robert Horton

Trivia Party

Karen & Chuck Hayes - December Trivia Champions

Only 5 highly intelligent souls braved the blustery snow and frigid cold to attend the Christmas Trivia Party on Friday, December 16th.  But those 5 brave souls turned out to all be previous Trivia Party winners and the Trivia Party turned into a Tournament of Champions!  Four of the six rounds of questions were Christmas-related (In It’s A Wonderful Life, what did Clarence write in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn?)  One question separated the two teams going into the last round.  Karen & Chuck Hayes came out victorious, but for the other team, consisting of Jim Battin, Carmen Farwell, and Katie Felker, there’s always next year!

Well, next year has already arrived and we’re having another Trivia Party! Come ready for some fun and laughter.  Bring your own beverage of choice; although coffee will be provided at no charge.  Feel free to bring a snack to pass.  Admission is free.  If you haven’t come to a Trivia Party, why not come check it out – all questions are team questions, so no one is ever put on the spot.  The January Party is being rescheduled - date to be determined - please check with the library.  (Answer – No man is a failure who has friends.)

Shop At Amazon & Earn $$$ for the P.I. Library

If you shop regularly at Amazon.com or even if you only shop occasionally at Amazon.com, now when you do, you can earn money for the Presque Isle Library!  It doesn’t cost you a penny.  When you place an order with Amazon, they will automatically send a percentage of your order total to the Presque Isle Library!  How does it work, you ask?  It’s super easy.   Look over to the right…yes, on the right-hand side of this web page.  See the new link called “Shop at Amazon.com Now”?  When you click on it…No, don’t click on it yet!...but when you do, you’ll be transferred to the Amazon.com Home Page.  Once you’re there, you can shop to your hearts content…buy that new camera you’ve wanted, get yourself a Kindle (Did I really say that?), or do all of your Christmas shopping!  When you check out, a percentage of your order will be transferred to the Presque Isle Library Amazon Associates Account.   But you won’t see it happen. It's completely transparent. There's no acknowledgement back to you telling you that it’s happened, or thanking you on behalf of the Presque Isle Library.  But believe me, the Presque Isle Community Library will appreciate your order, big or small.  The money from your order will be transferred to a savings account, and that money will be used to buy more materials for the P.I. library:  children’s books, adult fiction & non-fiction, dvd’s, books on cd, large print books, etc, etc…

Here are some details about how this works. It only works if you go to Amazon through the library’s home page.  By clicking the “Shop at Amazon.com Now” link over to the right.  No, don’t click it yet!  Once you’re at Amazon's Home Page, you can sign into your own account, just like you always do, if you have one.   If you don’t have an account, Amazon will prompt you for all the necessary information during the checkout process.  Lastly, the percentage that the Presque Isle Library earns is on a sliding scale, from a low of 2% to a high of 6%, depending upon the total cumulative sales in a month.  So, if you were planning on purchasing something from Amazon, please use the Library’s Home Page to go to Amazon, and earn some $$$ for the Presque Isle Library!  Thank You in advance, from the Presque Isle Library, for shopping at Amazon!  Yes…Now you can click it….
